About The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Systems Engineer experienced in diagnostics product development. You will be working closely with some of the world’s leading diagnostics and life-sciences companies to develop cutting-edge and innovative products from early stage concepts, through to product launch. As a technical project leader, you will understand how to navigate the technical complexities to design and develop point of care and lab-based systems and guide multi-disciplinary teams to ensure the product meets the requirements.

As part of this role, you will support business development activities and help to nurture existing clients. You will be involved in technical sales calls, helping to write proposals and client management. You will use your in-depth specialist technical knowledge to help drive important development projects toward success.


About You
  • Experience in diagnostic or life-science system development which include consumables and readers that implement complex biochemical / cellular assays; able to navigate the technical, user and cost trade-offs to develop ‘well balanced’ products.
  • Understanding of the interplay between biology and mechanical engineering having developed IVD or life-science products being very comfortable working on the edge of biology, chemistry, physics, electronics and mechanics, with a wholistic understanding of (or at least interest in) all system aspects making up a workflow and device. In practice this usually means experience in the fields of electronic- and mechanical engineering, biochemical workflows / biophysical chemistry, fluidics and optics – basic familiarity of all areas, extensive experience in at least two.
  • Deep technical expertise in a field or fields relevant in the development of in-vitro diagnostic and life science instrumentation and workflows. Including interdisciplinary experience combining relevant methodologies such as sample preparation, detection, data acquisition and data analysis.
  • Expertise working across the design and development process, from feasibility prototypes to formal verification activities, able to manage risk and complexity at each stage of the project.
  • Excels in teamworking with exceptional verbal and written communication in an interdisciplinary environment including biological and physical scientists and engineers, and international / intercultural work teams.
  • Project leadership skills to empower the team and drive development efficiently and effectively towards well-defined goals. Track record of leading device development projects, especially early stage in highly interdisciplinary teams.
  • Degree-level education in relevant subject such as Mechanical or Electronic Engineering, Physics or Natural Sciences.
