About The Role
Cambridge Design Partnership (CDP) is a world-class product development consultancy that uses design and technology to fulfil end user needs, so creating commercial success. To achieve this, we have a wide range of capabilities from research, design, applied science and engineering, to pilot manufacturing and quality. Our expertise is delivered by teams who specialise in the requirements of three major market sectors: Healthcare, Consumer and Industrial.
Our service is end-to-end in every sense.  We take physical products from concept to volume production.  And we complement physical products with digital systems, enabling us to provide full capture, connectivity and data processing solutions from the hands of users to the cloud and back, fully customised to user needs.  We have grown our digital capability strongly over the past year and recently released our ‘CDP Mosaic’ modular product as a key part of our offering.

THE ROLE
We are seeking a dynamic and self-motivated individual to join our digital team, reporting to the Head of Sales with close collaboration with the Head of Software.  Your objective will be to grow our digital business by promoting and selling our evolving physical-device-to-digital-ecosystem development services to clients, in partnership with our market sector sales teams. With strategic vision, you’ll have the opportunity to refine and develop our digital services and products, building business cases both for our clients and for CDP. We can offer a hybrid approach to work for this role.

Responsibilities:
  • Promotion, business development and sales of CDP’s digital ecosystem development services:
  • Collaborate with our market sector leaders to engage and build long term relationships with clients
  • Understand client needs and shape development programmes
  • Promote compelling commercial business cases for clients
  • Find prospective new clients via your contact list and from our market sector leaders
  • Your targets will be to arrange meetings with clients, issue proposals, and close sales at the £2m+ per annum level
  • Develop our digital strategy: refine our digital service offering, in partnership with the Head of Software, including:
  • The services and products
  • Timeline for revenue and development
  • Commercial business case for CDP
  • Collaborate with our Capability Leads to bring the appropriate skills to every programme.
  • You will be able to utilise “CDP Mosaic”, a powerful modular platform we have developed which has attracted significant client interest (see description of Mosaic on our website)
What you can expect from the role:
  • Strong commercial interactions including in-person and remote presentations, attending and presenting at conferences and seminars, representing CDP beyond “just” digital
  • An enormous variety of projects, clients and application areas, from high-risk medical devices to consumer technologies and industrial systems
  • Drawing on your foundational understanding of core technical, regulatory and management issues to adapt to the unique needs of every client
  • Thought and people leadership to support the growth and development of the software & digital team through coaching, mentoring, and management
  • Education opportunities both internally and externally to help colleagues and customers bridge the gap between the physical and virtual worlds, to demystify software, digital, data science, AI/DL/ML, and to handle the inherent uncertainty of development in these areas
  • Multi-disciplinary challenges pulling together physical products, embedded software, mobile devices, cloud systems, analytics and visualisation platforms, and delivering true insights through data science
  • Navigation of the ever-changing cybersecurity and privacy landscape, resolving misconceptions and giving clients confidence that they can rely on our expertise
About You
We seek someone who is equally comfortable presenting at conferences worldwide, holding deep technical conversations with clients and colleagues, leading sales meetings with prospective clients and identifying digital market opportunities for the business.  It’s likely that you will have technical experience of the digital and software industries in the past but have softened your focus on the technical in order to manage teams and take on commercial and business development responsibilities.  We expect that successful candidates will be comfortable moving across our sectors with supporting domain knowledge from past experience. You’ll be visionary in your outlook, naturally seeing how user needs can be met with technical and strategic solutions and may well have experience of the consultancy industry. Ideally you will have/be:

  • Extensive experience in the Digital sector with a background in technology/system development and project delivery, preferably in a healthcare sector
  • A successful track record of business development, sales and or building a commercial success.
  • Degree in engineering, science or closely associated subject.
  • A thought leader with a history of speaking at relevant conferences, with excellent presentation skills.
  • Willing to travel regularly and internationally.
  • An effective communicator with ability to work as part of a growing team to aggressive timescale and with strict attention to quality.
