About The Role
We are seeking a Workshop and Laboratory Manager, reporting to senior management, who will be responsible for our team of technicians and their associated facilities. We are a project orientated company and our design and engineering teams rely on these support services to deliver their projects efficiently and to a high standard. Your role will be to manage these resources to deliver on a day to day basis and maximise quality and utilisation. In addition, you will be developing new capabilities in response to the needs of the growing business.
The role includes:
  • Managing the laboratory and workshop technician team and their workloads and utilisation.
  • Ideally NEBOSH qualified or similar, you will look after H&S and good practice in the laboratories and workshops, in association with our H&S director
  • Maintain the asset register / inventory control of laboratory equipment and tools
  • Work with staff to ensure calibration of equipment is carried out regularly and ensure maintenance of equipment is carried out on a regular basis
  • Develop new facilities/capabilities (We have labs over 3 sites, R&D, metrology, electronics, optics, Chemistry, Bio Cat 2.) including identifying new equipment needs
  • Plan and implement the workshop and laboratory move into a new larger custom facility
  • Maintain workshop and laboratory equipment performance by establishing quality standards; developing operations, quality, and troubleshooting procedures; ensuring staff compliance; certifying instrument performance; arranging equipment replacement, service, and repair
  • Ensure correct storage and disposal of chemicals and chemical waste
  • Develop and maintain lab procedures, experimental protocols, work instructions and SOP’s
  • Create training materials and train personnel as and when required
  • Ensure ISO13485/9001 processes are followed
  • Build relationships with local subcontractors to assist when demand exceeds capacity
  • You will be highly visible and approachable within the company, the go-to person for project leaders to get things done, ensuring the laboratory and workshop meets the requirements of our project teams
  • Managing the laboratory and workshop budgets
  • Provide advice and direction for workshop and laboratory facilities on our international sites
About You
You will be highly visible and approachable within the company, the go-to person for project leaders to get things done when they need laboratory and workshop facilities and resources. With a well organised approach and great attention to detail, you will need to be willing to roll up your sleeves and get involved on a practical level when needed. You will have a good understanding of both workshop and lab processes, environments and commonly used equipment, but principally you will demonstrate excellent people management and organisational skills.
