We are seeking an experienced, hands on workshop manager to look after our in-house prototype facility and team of skilled technicians. We have a well-equipped workshop that supports our international new product development business across healthcare and consumer product sectors. Capabilities include CNC milling and turning using FeatureCAM as well as manual milling and turning, injection mould making and moulding, 3D printing, vacuum casting and traditional model-making and paint finishing. We are a project orientated company, and our design and engineering teams rely on our workshop to make one off or small batch prototypes to a high standard for testing and development in our labs. Your role will be to manage these resources to meet the demand from our project teams, and to deliver on a day to day basis meeting deadlines at the highest quality standards. In addition, you will be looking to the future, developing new capabilities and processes in response to the needs of the growing business. The role includes:
• Managing the workshop team and their workloads and utilisation.
• Maintaining the quality of the workshop output, inspecting parts with the latest metrology equipment to ensure they are within tolerance.
• Working hands-on making parts alongside the team when needed. You will have extensive experience in high precision machining.
• Building relationships with local subcontractors to assist when demand exceeds capacity.
• Managing the workshop budget and ensuring equipment is maintained.
• You will be highly visible and approachable within the company, the go-to person for project leaders to get things done, ensuring the workshop meets the requirements of our project teams.
• Leading, developing and growing our 4-person skilled technician team.
• Ensuring ISO13485/9001 processes are followed when necessary.
• Ideally NEBOSH qualified or similar, you will look after H&S and good practice in the workshop, in association with our H&S director.
• Managing and delivering training for general staff on workshop procedures when needed.
• Reporting to the senior management team.
• Planning and implementing the expansion of workshop equipment, team and infrastructure.
• Advising on workshop facilities in our US engineering office.
